Westgate shopping Mall recognizes the value of corporate social responsibility. We have been involved in helping raise funds and creating awareness for various charitable organizations. This is done mainly through offering promotional space at a subsidized cost within the mall.
The Teen Challenge Cultural Group is a non-profit community based volunteer organization with a vision to build a drug free society. Their aim is to empower the society to handle drug-related problems. In a recent promotion at Westgate, the Teen challenge cultural group created more awareness of their mission through distribution of fliers, branded pens and t-shirts. They also had a demonstration on how a drug test kit works. The group managed to register volunteer counselors for a local radio program.
St. John's Ambulance is a charitable organization whose mission is to provide free first aid care and emergency services when needed. Their flag day held yearly is always a reminder of their good work and the need to support them. Uniformed volunteers collect funds from well wishers which are used to promote First Aid training and purchase of training materials and equipment. Westgate was proud to be part of this initiative in their recent flag day held on 4th July 2009.
In one of their promotions at Westgate, Family Care Missions held a display of their products which included children's educational CDs, Christmas cards, devotional books, calendars and coloring books. These products support their fulltime volunteer work in various poor communities around Nairobi.
Family Care Missions is a charitable organization comprised of fulltime, non-salaried volunteers, dedicating their lives to helping the underprivileged and disadvantaged in society. They are involved in supplying basic necessities to those who face numerous hardships and also focus on counseling and encouraging those they work with.
African Lily, one of our handicrafts kiosks, supports women living with HIV/AIDS through the Nyisango project located in Kibera slum. The women are involved in beading the leather panels for the beautifully designed bags.
Westgate has also identified other support groups and continues to help through the Masai market which runs every Tuesday. These support groups include, Kenya Union for the Blind and Kangemi Women Support Group.
